Eclectic Strings Festival

February 28 – March 2, 2013 at the ASTA Conference in Providence, Rhode Island.

Alternative Styles Awards

This event seeks to identify, celebrate, and encourage young practitioners of alternative string styles, such as (but not limited to) all folk music traditions, jazz, fusion, and rock music.

Merle J. Isaac Composition Contest

The purpose of ASTA's Merle J. Isaac Composition contest is to encourage the composition, publication, and performance of music of quality for the benefit of school orchestra programs.

National Orchestra Festival

The 2013 National Orchestra Festival will be held in conjunction with the ASTA National Conference in Providence, RI February 28- March 2, 2013. The schedule of performances is located at the above link.

National High School Honors Orchestra

The National High School Honors Orchestra (NHSHO) is a performing group of about 120 competitively selected high school musicians who assemble biennially to perform at the ASTA national conference.

CodaBows for America Community Outreach

CodaBow International, Ltd., donates approximately $5,000 worth of full-size CodaBow Aspire bows annually to deserving schools and studios. Violin, viola, and cello bows can be awarded. Applications will be accepted from ASTA members in good standing on behalf of schools or studios that outline the particular worthiness, promise, and need of their program.

National Solo Competition

The National Solo Competition is open to ASTA members or current students of ASTA members. Instrumental categories are Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Classical Guitar, and Harp.

Potter Violin Outreach Program

Dalton Potter, owner of Potter' s Violins in Bethesda, Maryland, donates six Rudolf Doetsch instruments annually to students in need. Three instruments-violins, violas, or cellos of any size-are awarded each round. Application deadlines are April 1 and October 1 each year. Applications are accepted on behalf of students (elementary through high school), from ASTA members who outline their particular worthiness and promise as string students.
